A Rose by another name is a slave

Updated: Dec 29, 2021

The poem was part of my B.Tech narrative contemporary collection, which produced jewellery and poetry that commented on the untold side of marriage and umakoti (young brides).

One of the aims was to create a body of work which used the interart translation medium of jewellery and poetry so as to present these bridal narratives.

During both the research and design development stages, I had come to relate to my subject and it began to bring me healing as I created and wrote. It was through this process I had begun to find parts of me I had forgot and ost over the years, I guess that's how healing works.

When you go back to the parts of you that left behind you begin to merge with them and they are able to heal you in ways simply moving on without them wouldn't.

Because sometimes you really need to look at not just the person in the mirror but the one who has become the shadow you try to leave behind.
