I want to know what love is

Updated: Dec 13, 2021

The more I heal from my past scars, the more I get into a more profound walk with God and myself. I realized I had no idea what real love was like outside of what I saw on TV.

For many years, I have had this one great desire to be loved and to love. I guess we can all relate to this feeling.

I noticed that practically every relationship I ever had was from a broken place and from one of needing to close a gap rather than love. Going from relationship to relationship in search of the one who will fulfill this unmet and unknown desire for love.

Through being in closer fellowship with God, I am beginning to understand that good, healthy love is drawn from God and that when experienced outside of God, it is based on a broken foundation. God, as the Creator, is intentional with every aspect of us, each with a specific purpose, from the hair on our bodies to the sweat released in our bodies.

Therefore, God created us with this desire to connect and wants us to experience love because it will be what connects us to Him.

When we think of love, we only consider love between human beings and hardly consider the most profound degree of love that exists. The love between the creator and his creations.

We go through life trying to find different ways to fill this great void with our parents, siblings, and friends, but to no avail. They are unable to meet this need. So we move on to the next human, certain that there are (or are) people out there who can meet our need for unconditional love.

We forget that as long as we live in the flesh, we fail, hurt, and disappoint, to some degree, everyone we have ever loved or met. Because the flesh is weak with carnal desires, and as Biblical history and life has proven, no human being was/is capable of training themselves not to falter at least once along the way.

When we understand this truth, we'll understand the need for a saviour and a relationship with God, because He is the source of the love, forgiveness, and healing needed to maintain these relationships we form in this life.

It is true that Christ understands that true love means dying when nobody sees the value of the sacrifice.
