The Bible is a practical explanation and example of how God uses ordinary people to perform extraordinary miracles.
Let's take a look at Gideon. Gideon is what I would call a coward. He was afraid, had low self-esteem, and had so many doubts Granted some of these doubts were caused by the fact that he felt like he was the least of his family and the least of all the tribes.
Nevertheless, God chose him.
Sometimes God chooses to speak to us when we are at our lowest, when we have no confidence, when we are at the peak of doubt that's when He will prophesy over our lives:
...but I'm going to use you. You are great, but you are going to be powerful. You are going to have an impact on this world. You are my chosen vessel.
I had that moment when God was busy telling me everything that I couldn't see when I looked in the mirror.
I literally used to laugh at some of the things that God saw in me because I couldn't understand how God who saw all my flaws and all my failures; who saw everything that everyone else sees and still calls me chosen, mighty, and declares that I'm perfect for His kingdom. A set apart vessel just for Him and His work.
This is why it is so important to be able to differentiate between the voice of God and the authority held in His voice and the simple words of people. Remember that God doesn't look at just the present, He looks at the future, He looks at destiny, He looks at you through the same eyes that he looked at you with when he was forming you.
Unlike Gideon's brief doubtful moments, I recall spending so many years succumbing to the spirit of doubt. Even within that season, God was still telling me this is why I called you Redeemed.
He would literally show me a vision or dream, revealing that one day, this is where I'm going to place you, and this is what I'm going to do through you.
However, out of fear, out of feeling inadequate and believing everything that everyone else was saying, I chose to hide my figurative wine press and refused to come out as much as God showed me who I was in Him.
Sometimes God ever so willingly, and because He's patient and shows is a sign of the sign, but when our mentality is not in the right place, when we are busy listening to the wrong voice, we cannot see, we cannot hear beyond the fear and insecurities.
The only thing that we can never focus on is the negative, and that's what I did for a long time.
But God, being the loving Father that He is and has been to me, drew me closer, pulled me out, and taught my hands how to war. He would literally show me through dreams how to counter the spiritual attacks. He would teach me how to wield my sword and not flinch.
I recall wishing I could wake up from this dream and find myself automatically strong and bold, unwavering, but instead I woke up with doubts, fear, and insecurities.
So God wanted me to draw close to Him so that I could understand what it took to get me there.
