God uses fire to show the authority He has given us

Updated: Nov 26, 2021

We are still continuing with our theme of how God uses fire to speak, declare, and grab our attention. For today’s reading will be based on 1 and 2 Kings, the story of Elijah.

In the story of Elijah, there are so many miraculous ways in which God used actual fire throughout the life of Elijah. He brought down fire to consume a sacrifice, to devour his enemies, and through the chariots that eventually took Elijah, so that he wouldn’t have a taste of death.

What is interesting to note about his story is that he had had such a close relationship with God (although having his moment of giving into fear), that He understood who he was in God, which is why he was able to make the sort of declarations he made. He knew that God was with him and that the Spirit of God was literally working in and through him because he was connected to God.

Which is why he was able to make statements like "If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty." It is because he knew that it was neither wishful thinking nor was he tempting God. He knew that God had in fact given him that authority, and he knew how to exercise it.

Many times, we do not realize who we are in God, nor do we understand the authority that has been given to us.As I had previously said, God said that he has given us authority to trample upon things so as not to live a defeated life.

However, because we do not understand that authority, we tend to bow down to situations and fear, instead of using the Spirit of God to declare our victory.
