Sometimes we feel so depressed because we are listening to condemning thoughts and are unable to turn them off because we have learnt to live with them.
We fail to understand and apply 2 Corinthians in our lives; that pulling down strongholds is actually spiritual warfare so as to remove the legal rights of oppressive and depressing thoughts.
For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5
For the purposes of this post, here are two ways to start breaking free from the cell bars we've come to label and accept as our character.
1. Read the word of God and compare it to what you have accepted about yourself. You will then see if they are in alignment. If they are not then these are the lies and character deceptions that you will need to break free from.
2. Think about what you watch and listen to because it informs and influences your mind and behavior. What you introduce into your mind and spirit will either weaken or strengthen you.
Our spiritual bodies, in terms of design, can be likened to our physical bodies in the sense that they need nourishment in order to flourish. Simply put, what we consume is the difference between healthy weight gain and unhealthy weight gain.
Therefore, in order for our spiritual bodies to be able to counter the spiritual attacks, they need to be on a consistent healthy diet that includes prayer, reading of the word, praise, worship, fasting, and a good dose of faith-building content.
These will ensure that you are not in a weakened state when facing spiritual attacks, which at times come in the form of words, thoughts, and hardships.
Remember that we have been given the weapons and the authority to destroy strongholds, arguments, and lofty opinions that oppose what God has said. That includes what He has said about us.
